Summer of Games June 15, 2010

It has been declared (by some) (me?) as the summer of games. I love games — love competing, love coming up with strategies & love winning! Your Mom’s friends will confirm. Anyway, I’m hoping to round up some friends for a true game night one of these days. And, since I recently learned how to play backgammon (thanks SD & MF!), I’d really like to buy this:

It’s embroidered!!

Love me some Jonathan Adler (and his adorable BF Simon Doonan), but possibly, at $295, it’s a touch impractical?

IAYM’s darling friend Jen just launched a lovely new blog, The Haystack Needle.  Covering all things home — stationery, organization, art, food, crafts etc etc — THN definitely gets a spot on our blogroll!  Congrats Jen!!

Poker Hand Values

Isn’t this a gorgeous print?  Makes me want to pull together a poker night.  ‘Cept my unemployed self would need to play with buttons (“Kevin, that’s a button.”)

The print is Poker Hand Values by Tan Nuyen at Threadless.com via Apartment Therapy Chicago.  30 bucks for a 18″ x 24″ print.  Hmm, maybe if I can host that poker night after all, I can win some duckets for a splurge…

What better way to curb the afternoon snack craving than… a pair of blue sunglasses??

TreeHugger reports that a Japanese company, Yumetai, has produced sunglasses that curb one’s appetite.  Not only do they make food look gross, the color blue affects the brain’s appetite center.  Huh.  Who knew?

Where do I get me a pair??

In honor of the due date of two of IAYM’s dearest friends, I thought it would be appropriate to put together a baby-themed post. So, here’s a look at some of my fave latest baby-friendly things…

Designed for Kids . . . if what you really want to do is kill them. February 18, 2008

Hi from Asia.  I am taking a break from updating iamsd.com (I just came to the few days I hadn’t jotted down in my notebook) and saw this on the NY Times.  This guy is a designer who wanted to make his apartment “kid friendly.”  Check out that staircase.  Really?  I know people with kids who have moved out of apartments for less than that.
